ATTENDANCE POLICY
Tardiness
The first morning bell rings at 7:40 a.m. We encourage all parents/guardians to make sure that their children arrive at school before this time.

Attendance
All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill.  To explain an absence from school, a child must bring a written excuse the first day he/she returns to school following the absence.  The note must be signed by a parent/guardian and state the reason for the absence.  The Darlington County School District Attnedance Policy states that absences are either "lawful" or "unlawful."  After three unlawful absences, where a student has not brought in an excuse from a parent/guardian, the attendance secretary will contact the parent/guardian.  If this occurs again or after five unlawful absences, further intervention will take place.  A student who has more than ten absences, whether lawful or unlawful, may not be promoted to the next grade level at the end of the year.  Regular out-of-school suspensions will count towards these absences.  However, days absent, awaiting an expulsion hearing or an appeal hearing will not count toward these absences.

Permission to Leave School
Every hour of every school day is important to each child's educational attainment.  For this reason, the school does not take lightly the early dismissal of any student before the end of the school day.  Also, the classroom interruption caused by the dismissal of a student interferes with the learning of the entire class.  However, if it becomes absolutely necessary for a  student to be excused early,
the parent/guardian must come to the office and sign out the child.  Teachers cannot release students from class without authorization from the office.  Parents/Guardians should not call the school for their child to report to the office.  Students will not be called from their classrooms until the parent/guardian arrives in the office.

We DO NOT allow students to leave the school campus without being accompanied by a parent or a designated adult listed on the form completed during registration.  Also, anyone not known by our office personnel may have to present identification before a student is released.
